I'm not at all sorry for helping to elect Barack Obama as president. I am sorry, however, that too many people in this country are too stupid to give him our support. Too many of my fellow citizens listen to fear-based, right-wing media. As a wise little green man once said, "Fear is the path to the Dark Side." Obama and his supporters tried to give us a new dream, a dream of hope; alas, this dream was too fragile, and was soon smothered by the nightmare of fear.
We finally, after all this time, have a leader in place who is willing to do what is right, what is necessary. Mr. Obama is staring our most troubling problems in the face, and too many of our citizens don't want to bear their share of the responsibility. We've all lived in a selfish fantasy-land for too long, and my generation wants to make amends once and for all. I'm sorry if it hurts, we did this to ourselves. Bailouts, stimulus packages, government intervention in the auto industry, financial reform, clean-energy reform, environmental reform... These are all effects, not causes. The problems that caused all these effects can no longer be ignored. I will not choose a life of leisure at the expense of my children's future, like the Baby Boomers did before me.
